All the transfer talk at Rangers in recent days and weeks has centred around who will be leaving, so Philippe Clement has sprung something of a surprise with Robin Propper on his way to Glasgow.
Hot on the heels of departure to Aris Limassol on a three-year deal, Clement and director of football Nils Koppen have moved to reinforce their options at centre back with Propper. The Twente defender and captain is expected to sign in time for this Saturday’s opener away to Hearts and could take his place in Clement’s starting lineup for the lunchtime kick-off if clearance comes through.
If that’s the case, then he’ll face a stern test immediately. Propper will be tasked with keeping Lawrence Shankland quiet, which Gers failed to do last season. The 31-goal hitman remains a potential transfer target for the Light Blues, although Jambos boss Steven Naismith insists they are unaware of any interest and there has been absolutely no contact regarding the striker. Propper will get as close a look as possible if picked, but what sort of defender will Shankland be up against?
