The Celtic XI that didn’t start vs Hibs as strength in depth wanes underlining transfer needs
Celtic fans and Brendan Rodgers want new quality additions before the end of the window.
A look at how much strength in depth they have perhaps strengthens the manager’s hand in discussions with the board about new players. A year ago, we looked at a Hoops XI who hadn’t even made the bench for a league game against Ross County and it was littered with quality.
Now, compiling an eleven that didn’t start the game against Hibs at the weekend is a little more difficult. That’s because of a lack of competition at centre-back, where back-ups like Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki could even leave the club, and left-back where Greg Taylor doesn’t have a senior player competing with him for a game.
All that leaves this XI looking a little weaker than the one we came up with a year ago and underlines their needs in the transfer market. Our eleven is below.

Anthony Ralston
The back-up right-back scored on the opening day against Kilmarnock but was benched for the Hibs clash.

Stephen Welsh
A reliable operator when called upon but any new signings at centre-back could push him further down the pecking order.

Maik Nawrocki
Could well leave the club a year after his £4m move from Legia Warsaw.

Matthew Anderson
Celtic kid Matthew Anderson completed an Admira Wacker loan
Young left-back had a strong loan in Austria last season and remains the only alternative to Greg Taylor for now.
