Everton could be about to agree a deal to sign Willy Gnonto permanently from Leeds United as talks are “progressing well”, TEAMtalk reports.
According to the outlet’s website on 22 July the Toffees and the Whites are currently just £5million apart in their valuation of the winger who is “keen” to make the move to Goodison Park a year after it was blocked.
Everton want to pay £20m for the Italian international while Leeds want £25m but an agreement could now be reached in the “very near future”.
If the lower fee is paid up front and performance-related add-ons are included which could take it to the higher number the signing may even be wrapped up this week.
Gnonto’s arrival is thought to be in addition to the impending agreement with Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli after the Dane said goodbye to his teammates amid talks with the Toffees over personal terms [Gazzetta dello Sport, 22 July].
Sean Dyche close on second Elland Road winger at Everton after Jack Harrison return
Amadou Onana’s big-money exit to Aston Villa appears to be the key to unlock the next lot of arrivals at Goodison Park.
Despite the collapse of the Dan Friedkin takeover it looks like the club are plowing ahead with recruitment, even if there is thought to be a renewed risk of more sales [Talking the Blues, 20 July].
Adding Gnonto and Lindstrom to the previous deals that brought Jack Harrison back from Elland Road on loan and the permanent arrival of Iliman Ndiaye for Marseille would help give Sean Dyche options in attack.

The Everton boss had little of that last term when he had to choose from Harrison, Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucouré and loanee Arnaut Danjuma for the three positions behind the striker.
Only the Dutch international is now gone from that group back to Villarreal so if the pair of winger targets are brought in the unit might suddenly become a strength.
Everton Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche tried to bring Willy Gnonto to Everton last summer but his exit was blocked by Leeds.
As long as Dyche and Kevin Thelwell are able to bring in enough reinforcements to fill the gaps left behind by whoever else is still sold there should be some confidence in the manager after the past two seasons.
Longer-term financial worries will remain for as long as Farhad Moshiri continues to be unable to sell the club but for there is at least some positive news to counterbalance the negative developments.
In other Everton news, an update has emerged on whether Dyche and Thelwell are looking to leave after the latest takeover collapse dropped the club back into ownership chaos.
