Ruud van Nistelrooy meeting planned after new Leicester City manager sent brief message
The Dutchman’s hands-on work begins on Sunday morning, when he will make his first visit to the training ground to meet caretaker boss Ben Dawson after the defeat at Brentford
Ruud van Nistelrooy will make his maiden visit to the Leicester City training ground on Sunday morning after watching his new side dismantled at Brentford.
Van Nistelrooy was in the stands at the Gtech Community Stadium alongside chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin as City lost 4-1 to the Bees, their joint-heaviest defeat of the season. After a watching brief on Saturday, hands-on work begins on Sunday.
Having earned the job remotely, from his home in Eindhoven, Van Nistelrooy will visit Seagrave for the first time on Sunday morning. There he will meet caretaker boss Ben Dawson as preparations begin for Tuesday night’s home clash with West Ham, the Dutchman’s debut as City manager.
Asked if he had spoken to Van Nistelrooy before kick-off in west London, Dawson said: “No, there was just the message last night when the appointment was made. He wished everybody good luck.
“The plan will be to catch up tomorrow at the training ground. (The meeting) will be whatever the new manager thinks. It was already scheduled that we’d be in tomorrow morning with the quick turnaround to Tuesday night.
“We had had a meeting planned anyway, if no appointment had been made, so we could review the game and look forward to Tuesday night. It will be up to the new manager how he uses that time.”
