Ruud van Nistelrooy given green light to sign £50m star for Leicester City in January transfer window
Leicester City are expected to be active in the 2025 January transfer window.
The Foxes are in danger of suffering a swift return to the Championship, currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone and two points above 19th-place Crystal Palace.
Injury woes are also expected to force Leicester City to dip into the transfer market over the winter.
Abdul Fatawu is out for the season and Ricardo Pereira will be on the sidelines for several months, leaving the club very short of options at full-back and up front.
The Midlands outfit have already started to look at new attackers they could potentially sign in January, with Leicester scouting Omar Marmoush earlier this week when he scored in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-1 Europa League victory.
As for the full-back dilemma, new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has now been given the green light to pursue one player.
Ben Chilwell and Romeo Lavia of Chelsea during a training session at Chelsea Training Ground on November 29, 2024 in Cobham, England.
Ruud van Nistelrooy can sign Ben Chilwell for Leicester City
Ben Chiwell spent several years at Leicester before joining Chelsea in August 2020 for a fee of around £50m, as per Sky Sports.
The full-back had previously been a key figure for the Blues under the likes of Thomas Tuchel, but Enzo Maresca axed Chilwell from training earlier this season.
The 27-year-old has now played just 45 minutes of senior action for Chelsea this term – featuring in a 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow in September.
Now, with the January window fast approaching, it looks as though the Englishman will be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.
According to The Athletic, Chiwell only stayed in West London over the summer because no loan or permanent transfer was agreed.
However, Chelsea are now willing to let the defender leave in January and are open to either a permanent sale or a loan move.
