Rangers will hope to take a step closer to Champions League qualification when Philippe Clement’s men take on Dynamo Kyiv this evening.

Philippe Clement faces some selection dilemmas heading into this game. With Oscar Cortes ruled out for up to five weeks, who fills in at left wing? Rabbi Matondo will be hoping to take over the mantle but it would be intriguing to see Jefte in the role.

The Brazilian is unlikely to dislodge Ridvan Yilmaz but his attacking tendencies could just work down Rangers’ left.

The other big question focuses on the defence with Hearts able to exploit Rangers’ fragility at times on Saturday. The manager confirmed Robin Propper is fit to play when he conducted his press conference yesterday so the Dutchman surely has to start. Leon Balogun would get the nod alongside the former FC Twente skipper. His experience and physicality will be important with Rangers expected to be under the cosh for spells.

In midfield, this is not the game for a No.10 so that means no Tom Lawrence, Kieran Dowell or Alex Lowry. Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande will provide the bit and energy in the middle and, if fit, Dujon Sterling would add more legs and power in the engine room.

In the forward areas, Cyriel Dessers will still lead the line with Vaclav Cerny surely starting on the right.

Clement gave little away on Monday evening when he was asked about Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny starting against Kyiv. Hopefully the Belgian was just keeping his cards close to his chest and playing some selection games and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t pitch his two new recruits into such a defining fixture.

The return of Dujon Sterling would be a significant boost. It would allow Clement to operate with a more solid midfield three and Sterling in alongside Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron would give Rangers a greater chance of having a foothold in what could be a difficult fixture.

Ahead of them, the loss of Oscar Cortes is a real blow. And not just for this 90 minutes in Poland. Clement has a problem on the left side. Rabbi Matondo looks the most likely one to get the chance to solve it. Off the bench, Jefte could have a part to play.
