Dutch club Heerenveen have made a move to sign the 24-year-old centre-back, who will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

Back in June, Italian club Lecce made several approaches to sign the Swedish defender, with the club looking to sign him on loan with an option to buy permanently.

He was close to leaving the Scottish champions in January, but his move to Lecce was stalled after Cameron Carter-Vickers picked up an injury.

His situation at Celtic Park has not improved, and now he is close to joining Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, the Dutch club are in “advanced talks” to sign the Celtic defender over a loan deal.

The defender has struggled to break into the team following his £3 million move from Elfsborg last summer. Celtic have been open to offers for the Swedish international.

“UPDATE: Heerenveen are in advanced talks with Celtic over a loan deal for centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke.

“Celtic have been open to offers for the 24-year-old, who has struggled to break into the team following his £3m move from Elfsborg last summer.”

Celtic are also close to losing their star midfielder Matt O’Riley, who is on the verge of joining Premier League club Brighton.

Lagerbielke scored the winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League, but he has somehow failed to make a strong impression under Brendan Rodgers.

The centre-back has a contract at Parkhead until 2028, and Celtic can afford to let him go out on loan. If he enjoys a successful spell, Celtic can then look to demand a high transfer fee to offload him permanently.

It appears that talks are ongoing at an advanced stage, and since it’s a loan move, the defender should be able to seal a temporary exit from Celtic Park.
