Philippe Clement pens bumper new Rangers contract in surprise announcement on eve of the season

When he was appointed in October last year as replacement. Clement agreed a three-and-a-half year deal.

That would run until the end of season 2026-27.

However just nine months 26 and a half hours before kicking off the new season against Clement has been handed a new improved contract until 2028.

He said: “I have a really open and transparent relationship with the board – in every meeting that we have had you feel the passion and desire to make the club better and that is the same for me.

“I have fallen in love with the club, with the fans, the stadium and with the city.

“I see huge potential and now we need to make the club better and stronger in every department, that is our goal, and we are all really aligned about that.”

Alignment between boss and board was a matter stressed by earlier this week.

And it was a deal they shook hands on in MAY.

Clement went on: “It’s been always really aligned, really open, really transparent. It’s not that we hear each other every week.

“The last couple of weeks I’ve heard the chairman much more, because James had left the club and the chairman took over some duties in that way.
