The first day of training camp practices started this morning in Pittsburgh. Omar Khan talked with the media today and answered some questions regarding the team’s status. Among those questions was one about the Steelers and their activity in the trade market for a wide receiver. Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed that there is not much happening with a wide receiver trade on X (formerly Twitter):
Khan said there is nothing going on right now in regards to a trade for a receiver.

This is not the news that many fans were hoping for. Fans have been clamoring all offseason for the Steelers to trade for wide receivers such as Brandon Aiyuk, DK Metcalf, and Courtland Sutton (who just agreed to a restructured contract today). This is a stance that Khan has stuck with throughout the offseason. Back on April 30th, Khan appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and said something similar:
“I heard about those Wide Receiver rumors but there’s nothing going on right now..
I’ll text @ToneDigz if anything is happening”

As Steelers fans should know, this is not something to read too much into. Khan does not have to say anything about any discussions the team is having with other teams in the NFL. That is the right way to do business and to keep negotiations private. It also could be that Khan is telling the truth. Nobody really knows outside of those inside the organization who are privy to such discussions.
If the Steelers are going to make a move for a wide receiver it would likely require a quality draft pick and a new contract for whoever they would bring in. There will be a lot of moving pieces in a potential trade for a wide receiver. Until then the likes of Calvin Austin III, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, Roman Wilson, and Scotty Miller will fight to prove that the Steelers do not need anyone else in the wide receiver room.
