Newcastle United expressed interest in Borrussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko before he penned a new contract last summer
Youssoufa Moukoko’s agent has claimed his client wants to leave Borussia Dortmund due to failed contract promises.
Newcastle United were heavily linked with the 19-year-old in January 2023. Billed as one of the continent’s top prospects, Moukoko was an in-demand prospect as his contract was set to expire in the summer.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly touting the German international who, just months earlier, had represented his country at the World Cup. Newcastle also expressed interest until Moukoko penned a new three-year deal with Dortmund.

The Bundesliga outfit have a history of nurturing talent but Moukoko failed to kick on last season. Despite Dortmund reaching the Champions League final, the youngster played a bit-part role, netting just six goals across all competitions.
He played second fiddle to Niclas Fullkrug and Serhou Guirassy’s arrival will dilute those opportunities further. Speaking to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Moukoko’s agent, Patrick Williams, revealed the player wants out amid interest from England, Spain and France.

“Youssoufa has a huge potential, which unfortunately he couldn‘t show last season,” he said. “He was promised a lot before he signed, but it wasn’t realised. He was always only interested in playing and in his development – not in anything else just like the media reports always claimed.

“I say BVB is making a mistake in giving Youssoufa away. With so little playing time, everyone will know that Youssoufa’s market value will be low and Dortmund can’t expect much.
“We wanted it to be different, but that’s the football business. Youssoufa is totally clear in his mind, extremely focused and knows what he wants to drive his career forward. Now we are sounding out interest from England, Spain and France.”
