Leeds United loan transfer condition revealed as youngsters attract interest

Leeds United will look to buy players before sending one of their young players out on loan in January, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported [29 November] that the Whites might require incomings due to their lack of squad depth before letting the likes of James Debayo, Charlie Crew or Joe Gelhardt leave amid rumoured interest.

Gelhardt is attracting attention from the likes of Rangers in Scotland given he has falling down the pecking order at Elland Road [TEAMtalk, 27 November].

Leeds United need to maintain squad balance

Leeds need to be wary of not disturbing their already fragile numbers in the squad, with the injuries of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev forcing the West Yorkshire club to sign Josuha Guilavogui as a free agent recently.

Another area of concern for the Whites is centre-back, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk backed up by only one experienced centre-back in Max Wober.

Debayo has been a critical member of the first-team squad this season, making the bench 14 times in the Championship, making his departure a non-starter.

Crew is another player who has been thrust with more senior duties in the current campaign due to the injuries in the middle of the park.

Gelhardt is someone Leeds might get away with letting go of, considering Daniel Farke has Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford at his disposal for the number nine position — and the German manager could let the 22-year-old potentially depart.

The Whites have some big decisions to make in January, and it remains to be seen how the Peacocks’ aspirations of promotion will affect their transfer business.

In other Leeds United news, a new project at Elland Road could bring in £50 million for the West Yorkshire club.
