Kevin Muscat to Rangers claim made as Philippe Clement gamble mooted
Fraser Wilson believes Rangers hiring Kevin Muscat if Philippe Clement was sacked would be another “shot in the dark” from the club.
The Belgian has been under some scrutiny recently due to the Gers’ below-part performances, with more questions being asked after their 1-0 loss against Kilmarnock on Sunday (20 October).
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (22 October), journalist Wilson shared his thoughts on the potential return of Muscat to Ibrox after a fan mentioned that the Australian was also in the running for the job before Clement was hired – and could soon be back on the market.
“It would be another shot in the dark wouldn’t it,” Wilson said.
“I mean, everything is a gamble these days with appointing managers. Who’s to say Kevin Muscat would be any better?”
Later in the podcast, Keith Jackson revisited the topic of Clement and said that the Gers’ fans could be more hostile towards their team than the fans of their opponents FCSB on Thursday (24 October).
“Thursday night is a real hotbed for Clement to be walking into,” Jackson said.
“He wants to get the atmosphere rocking, he wants to that Thursday night feeling back at Ibrox but I just wonder if there could be more hostility from Rangers than at the visitors on Thursday.”
Rangers should stick by Philippe Clement
Some of the Gers’ results this season have left a lot to be desired and their poor performance in high-pressure games has certainly left a sour taste in some of their fans’ mouths.
However, as Clement signed a contract extension in the summer, it’s unlikely that the Belgian will be shown the exit door, especially since John Gilligan backed him publicly on Sky Sports [24 September].
