Adam Idah has set his sights on becoming Celtic’s first choice striker, saying that he doesn’t want to settle for a place on the bench as understudy to Kyogo Furuhashi.
Idah was speaking after finally putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Celtic after a protracted transfer saga between the Premiership champions and Norwich City this summer.
The 23-year-old made 19 appearances and scored nine goals during his successful loan stint in Glasgow in the second half of last season, but he started just seven of those matches.
When asked if his aim is to establish himself as a more regular fixture in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI this season, Idah said: “Yes, of course.
“I think the majority of players don’t go to a club to think, ‘I’m just going to sit there’.
“Obviously, I want to do the best for myself, but I said it before, regardless of if I start the game or if I’m on the bench, I’m always going to give my all. We’ve got such a great team.
“You’ve got Kyogo there as well, who’s a fantastic player. Yes, I want to push as hard as I can, but I’m willing to do the best I can [no matter what].”
Idah was over the moon to be back in a green and white jersey as he was paraded at Celtic Park yesterday, and he is excited to see how much he can improve by working under manager Rodgers for a sustained period of time.
