I didn’t want to renew his contract’ – Ex-West Ham director’s confession on Brighton near-signing in 2022

West Ham are in no hurry to let Vladimir Coufal leave in January, but the club is unlikely to extend his stay at the London Stadium.

Claret and Hugh spoke to a top source at the club this evening following reports that the Czech defender could be a transfer target for German and Turkish clubs in January. The right-back has been on the periphery of the first team this season following the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and his contract expires this coming summer.

However, when we asked a top insider at West Ham whether Coufal would be allowed to leave as early as January, we were told: “He can’t leave until June 30th, but he could sign a pre-contract elsewhere.”

It appears the club plans to keep a player who has been a superb signing for the Hammers. However, with West Ham needing to free up wages and generate funds before making any signings in January, they may not be able to say no if the right offer comes in.
