The update came after the Daily Record reported earlier on 29 July that Philippe Clement and the Ibrox hierarchy had been holding internal talks over whether to go ahead with a Shankland bid amid previous doubts over his suitability.
Sam Lammers’ £2.8million sale to FC Twente has freed up cash for new signings and Gers chiefs have reportedly told the manager he can use it to pursue the Jambos star.
Shankland and his club were said to be aware of the interest from Glasgow but Sked has now disputed that.
Tynecastle none the wiser amid Rangers interest
Unless or until Clement decides to move ahead with an offer for the Scot it would be little surprise if Hearts played entirely dumb over the situation.
They clearly don’t want to lose their captain and understandably so, and unless they are forced to confront the matter by cash being put on the table they will no-doubt choose to ignore speculation.
Clement himself refused to be drawn on it in an interview with Sky Sports earlier on 29 July and if the doubts at Ibrox [Rangers Review, 24 July] over the man who has scored 59 times in the past two years remain a bid may not materialise.

Connor Goldson’s confirmed exit to Aris Limassol has now brought in more money but will surely necessitate signing an established central defender.
An experienced central midfielder is also likely required so the cash may need to be directed elsewhere.
And although a striker also seems a priority still there is said to be a bid on the way for another big-money option who has been liked to an Ibrox switch during the current window [Sorin Chiriac, 29 July].
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are in talks with a Premier League club over a deal to bring in another new signing with a seven-figure asking price.
