Conway relegated to reserves

Rangers have been linked with Bristol City striker Tommy Conway as the Gers looks to bolster their frontline this summer.

The forward made a big impression with the Robins last season, netting 10 times in the English Championship and even scoring the winner against Premier League West Ham in the FA Cup.

The links between Rangers and Conway first appeared back in January and they’ve pretty much bobbed along ever since without anything concrete happening.

But now Bristol City have taken action this week after the striker returned from this summer’s tournament in Germany.

With Tommy Conway – who never played a minute for Scotland at the tournament – enjoying some extra downtime alongside Ross McCrorie after Euro 2024, the two returned to Robins training on Monday.

But with Conway stalling on signing a new deal, according to local outlet Bristol Live, the Ashton Gate club have forced him to train with the U21s.

The 21-year-old’s current contract expires next summer and if Conway won’t sign a new one, it’s clear he has no future at Bristol City.

The report claims that Bristol City manager Liam Manning has made the call with the full intention of moving Conway on this summer in the hope of recouping a fee.

It comes after Manning made a public appeal for Conway to stay at Bristol City earlier in the summer.

Rangers get transfer trading lesson

Obviously with Rangers on the hunt for attacking reinforcements the Tommy Conway news will be met with intrigue at Ibrox.

But more than just present the club with an opportunity to sign the striker, the situation also sends a message about stuttering player trading in recent seasons.

With the aforementioned list of players badly damaging our reputation in the transfer market, perhaps taking Bristol City’s hardline approach would’ve been more productive.

Rangers have let too many underperforming players tick down their contracts and leave for nothing whilst Bristol City are not allowing such a rot to set into their squad.

Whilst the news ultimately signals Conway’s availability this summer, Rangers might do well to take a leaf out of the Robins’ book when it comes to several of our own players.

To be fair to the Gers, frustrating striker Sam Lammers is training and even playing with the B Team.
