Rangers are readying a new move to sign Plymouth Argyleβs Morgan Whittaker, sources have told Football Insider.
The Gers previously tried to land the prolific winger when he was at Swansea City, but their January 2023 offer was knocked back by the Championship club.
Plymouth now face a battle to try and keep hold of the 23-year-old this summer as a number of clubs at home and abroad are keen on the attacker.
Rangers have registered their interest in a deal and are closely tracking the winger who scored 20 goals and provided nine assists last season.
Plymouth are valuing him at around Β£15million, and they are in a strong negotiating position due to Whittakerβs contract running until 2027.
Given that price tag, Rangersβ interest will be regarded as a surprise in some quarters, although it remains to be seen whether the south-coast club can secure a fee close to their asking price.
Rangers will have to fight to land Morgan Whittaker
Whittaker was one of Plymouthβs standout performers last season, which means any club wanting to sign him will have to work hard.
Wayne Rooney has recently taken charge of the Championship club, and the former Man United star will be keen to keep his prized attacker.
Whittaker has been at Plymouth for the best part of two years after initially joining on loan and has provided a constant goal threat.
His versatility to play anywhere across the frontline and deeper in midfield makes him a flexible option.
