Exciting key player has signed a four-year contract with Nottingham Forest…

As the days ticked towards the deadline, lots of rumours emerged about the club potentially signing a goalkeeper.

Matz Sels has the gloves at the moment, with Brazilian summer signing Carlos Miguelproviding the competition from the bench.

One name linked with Forest was Caoimhin Kelleher. The Liverpool player was the subject of a bid but the two clubs couldn’t agree on a deal.

There were other names in the mix though and it appears as though the club might have been lining up a transfer that would have been extremely popular.

The goalkeeper stunned Forest shortly after winning promotion to the Premier League by announcing his desire to leave the club.

He was instrumental in the Play-Off semi-final against Sheffield United – saving three penalties during the shootout to send the Reds into the final.

According to The Athletic, the club considered trying to bring Samba back to Forest in the summer with a new goalkeeper on the shortlist.

Samba made 133 appearances for the Reds, keeping 45 clean sheets and quickly becoming the club’s number one after signing from Caen.

Michael Dawson was a huge fan of the ‘confident’ goalkeeper and heaped praise on him when he featured alongside him for the Reds.

Although Samba is now 30-years-old, the Reds would have delighted the fan base by getting this deal over the line.

However, he may have cost a fair bit given that he’s playing for Lens who pushes for Europe every season, is the captain and gets called up for France regularly.
