That outcome wouldn’t be the greatest of surprises and continues the direction of travel that the 24-year-old has been on since the turn of the year.
Two goals in the Champions League should have provided a platform for Palma to kick on at Celtic despite not making his move from Greece until the final week of the summer transfer window.
All around him Mark Lawwell’s recruits were toiling to make an impact but in terms of goals and assists Palma had a near faultless start to his Celtic career.
Since the new year the Honduran international has slipped further down the pecking order for a place on the wing with Nicolas Kuhn, James Forrest and Daizen Maeda being preferred by Brendan Rodgers.
Given his first start of the season against Falkirk on Sunday Palma failed to make any meaningful impact with social media delivering an overwhelmingly negative impact.
Picking up on that plus a critical report in The Sun, Honduran website Crono Metroheadlined their story with:
Luis Palma continues to underperform and could say goodbye to Celtic in January
The immediate question about Palma is whether or not he keeps his place on the bench for Saturday’s match against St Johnstone or is replaced by Yang Hyun-jun who replaced him after an hour of the 5-2win over Falkirk.
Although he doesn’t look like challenging for a starting place Yang looks better suited to the style of play that Rodgers has imposed on Celtic this season.
January isn’t the easiest time for a transfer but if Palma’s playing time is limited at Celtic a loan deal would seem to be in the best interests of all parties.
