Everton new stadium: ‘complex’ installation complete as Liverpool skyline set to change

Everton’s new stadium on Bramley-Moore has undergone another major development as it gets closer and closer to completion. The latest development involves the curved roof of the stadium that Evertonians have been able to eagerly observe from a distance for some time.

The barrel cladding that wraps around the roof of the stadium was fully installed yesterday. The “unique, eye-catching aluminium panels” helps to make Everton’s soon-to-be home stand out on Liverpool’s waterfront. Mike Young, Principal Facade Engineer for Laing O’Rourke, said: “The cladding is the last significant bit of the envelope that we have to complete.

The barrel roof consists of 872 panels (436 each on the east and west stands) that wrap around the stadium. Each panel weighs 250kg and is put into place by a “specially-designed robotic arm”. The process to install all panels is described as “complex and lengthy … with the barrel shape and malleable panels presenting several novel challenges to the installation team.
