Everton increasingly interested in Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal as Dominic Calvert-Lewin could go

  1. Everton increasingly interested in Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal as Dominic Calvert-Lewin could go
  2. Eddie Nketiah is becoming an increasingly prominent target for Everton during the transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

A report on the outlet’s website on 13 August claimed that the Toffees have drawn up a shortlist of possible striker signings in case any of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto, or Neal Maupay are sold.

And the Arsenal forward is said to be “gradually climbing their shortlist of targets” according to sources, and if Calvert-Lewin goes a bid could be made.

The Gunners are said to be insisting on £30million if they are to let the 25-year-old leave The Emirates so the club are also looking at alternatives.

Chelsea’s Armando Broja is believed to be keen on signing for Everton if given the opportunity but can’t if Calvert-Lewin stays [i News, 12 August].

Beto and Neal Maupay uncertainty at Everton too

At that price it is unlikely to be possible to secure Nketiah this summer unless a club comes in with a major offer for one of the current Toffees forwards.

Calvert-Lewin’s contract status is what is edging him towards the exit at Goodison Park, but with no offers currently coming in [Ian Croll, 26 July] it is also likely to be the reason offers won’t be as big as Everton want.

If the club were forced to accept a massive bid for Jarrad Branthwaite it would fund a move for the Arsenal man but without a current striker leaving there doesn’t look to be space in the squad for another.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future is a major question for the rest of the Everton transfer window.

Beto is wanted by Atalanta after injury to Gianluca Scamacca but the Toffees aren’t open to another sale to the Serie A side after letting Ben Godfrey go [Calcio Mercato, 7 August].

The closer the club gets to the 30 August deadline the more of a scramble it is going to be to get a replacement through the doors if a goalscorer does suddenly leave.

Maupay spent last season on loan at Brentford and probably wouldn’t require replacing with Youssef Chermiti still to come back from injury.

But if Calvert-Lewin or Beto were to depart Sean Dyche would be short. One-cap England international Nketiah has 38 Arsenal goals in 168 appearances and might break out if given the chance to be a regular starter, but could be unrealistic at Goodison.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be relegated by a major new points deduction according to Richard Keys.
