Eric Burdon admits he has being keeping tabs on on his beloved Newcastle United from across the pond.

As in life, one needs to take the good times with the bad. I am really proud of coming from a city with such a great football club, steeped in heritage,” he says.

“Relegation is a huge disappointment for the fans but I have faith that the team will get through it and return to the Premier League

I just hope the turf is still in the condition in which my grandfather Jack left it!”

He explains further: “He was the groundskeeper at St James’ Park and he often took me along with him to serve as ballboy. Placing the ball out in front of thousands of people in the stands at an early age really helped me get over any fear of crowds and made it possible for me to become a performer later.”
