Chris Beesley has shared that Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin looked “out of sorts” in the 3-0 defeat against Coventry on 30 July.
The Liverpool Echo journalist shared that there were a couple of “gilt-edged” opportunities that the striker failed to convert once again.

And, whilst there were calls from fans of the number nine not having his heart in the game, Beesley said he could not blame the tactics or any chances coming his way.
Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Beesley said: “Pre-season is all about shaking off the rust but Calvert-Lewin yet again spurned a couple of gilt-edged opportunities at Coventry City that you’d expect a striker of his calibre to convert.
“Observers who suggested he was playing like his heart wasn’t in it might be overly harsh, this is a player who despite what some say, has put his body on the line for the Blues in recent years and provided some of their biggest moments.
“But right now he looks out of sorts and it’s not like he can blame the tactics or claim the chances aren’t coming his way.”
Everton may have to bring in a Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement
Calvert-Lewin is currently Everton’s best striker. Whilst his performances weren’t at the standards expected of him last season, the Englishman is a far better number nine than what Beto is.
The 27-year-old has led the Toffees’ line ever since arriving and has now become synonymous with the Merseyside club.

And, whilst there have been glimpses of form showing through here and there, his injuries have hindered him.
Everton Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be moved on by Everton this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract
However, this hasn’t stopped clubs such as West Ham United from vying for the attackers’ transfer [Sky Sports, 15 July], with the Hammers being one of his most reported potential destinations this summer.
Tammy Abraham has been linked with a return to England [Tutto Mercato Web, 30 July] and would no doubt give the Toffees something different up top and perhaps make their attack more clinical.
That is if the AS Roma man could also manage to keep fit across the season. Nothing is yet set in stone but it doesn’t look like these rumours are going to die down any time soon.
