Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic romped to the Scottish Premiership title and Rangers are keen on completing a key rebuild to try and overtake Celtic to the pinnacle of Scottish football.
Seven players have already departed the club this summer and Dutchman Sam Lammers looks set to be the next name on the departures list after falling out of favour in Glasgow.
FC Twente director confirms intention to sign Lammers
Lammers joined Rangers last summer but after making an underwhelming start to the season, he was loaned out to Dutch side FC Utrecht.
Last season for Eredivisie side Utrecht, Lammers scored 10 goals and provided three assists for the Dutch team.
Despite a successful stint in Eredivisie, Clement made it clear that Lammers is not in his plans by leaving him to train with the B squad this summer while first-team players jetted out to their Dutch training camp.
It now appears Dutch side FC Twente are the side who are pushing the most according to the club’s director Arnold Bruggink.
“I am not going to deny it, we are working on him. But we are still a long way from that,” he told Tubanita.
Twente currently have former Norwich City striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel in their ranks but he is the only recognised striker so the signing of Lammers would add to the side’s depth this summer.
Lammers on his way out of Rangers but return to Utrecht not possible
Lammers had been linked with a move back to Utrecht, where he spent last season on loan, but the wage demands on the table from the forward meant a deal was impossible, according to AD.
However, that does not seem to be the case for FC Twente who are hoping to sign Lammers after a disappointing spell in Scotland.
Rangers announced the signing of Lammers last summer but the Dutchman scored just two goals in the Scottish Premiership during his time at the club.
During his time at Utrecht, former Rangers assistant manager Roy Maakay hailed Lammers as ‘one of the signings of the year in the Eredivisie’ when speaking to the Rangers Review.
It now appears that his time in Scotland is is coming to an end and a return to the Netherlands is in the pipeline.
