Chris Wood’s stance on signing new Nottingham Forest deal revealed

Chris Wood is happy at Nottingham Forest and is prepared to sign a new deal at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old has started the 2024-25 campaign in stunning form, hitting seven goals in nine Premier League games.

Wood is currently out of contract at the end of this season and can thus explore a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.

The New Zealand international is in a strong position to secure an exit due to his contract situation and incredible early-season form.

But Forest are keen to avoid that scenario and keep him on for the long term despite his advancing years.

Sources say Wood is happy at the City Ground and there is a willingness from all parties to get a deal done.

Wood ready to sign new Nottingham Forest deal

The 32-year-old joined Forest from Newcastle on an initial loan in January 2023 which later became a reported £15million permanent switch.

He hit 15 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Midlands club last term as they preserved their Premier League status.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now sit seventh in the table in the new season – thanks in no small part to Wood’s scintillating goalscoring form.

The 74-cap New Zealand star has now scored 76 goals in 236 Premier League appearances during spells with West Brom, Leicester, Burnley, Newcastle and Forest.

Forest were fined £750,000 by the FA on 11 October for an “attack on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale” following a loss against Everton last season.

And in a new twist, Marinakis has been handed a five-game stadium ban for spitting on the floor as match officials walked past in the tunnel following the 1-0 defeat against Fulham on 28 September.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Morgan Gibbs-White have been handed bans for their reactions to a red card in the 2-2 draw against Brighton on 22 September.
