While plenty of players have left Celticthis summer and more seem to be on their way out, the club have not been very active when it comes to incomings. At least that is what it looks like from the outside. The Hoops are yet to make their first signing of the window although a move for Kasper Schmeichel is believed to be on the verge of completion. After that, they will need to turn their attention elsewhere.
Another position where one would expect Celtic to strengthen this summer is midfield. Especially considering the constant speculation around the future of Matt O’Riley.
O’Riley has been linked with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Atalanta and several others. It feels very likely that the Danish midfielder will depart this summer for what is expected to be a Scottish record transfer fee
On the other hand, there has been speculation about Celtic trying to bring backon a permanent basis after his solid loan spell at the club. And there seems to be an update regarding that situation.
There had been suggestions earlier in the summer that wages were proving to be an obstacle in signing Bernardo. But it looks like that is not the case.
Of course, Bernardo was not a regular starter for Celtic during his loan stint at Parkhead but he did show a ton of potential. There are a number of areas where he needs to improve further but if he can take that next step, then the Portuguese youth international will be a fantastic midfielder for years to come.
