Celtic will kick off their quest for four-in-a-row when they unfurl the league flag this weekend against Kilmarnock.

The Hoops made hard work of it last season but showed their mettle when it mattered most by seeing off a resurgent Rangers to secure a league and Scottish Cup double. Brendan Rodgers is in the market for quality signings but has endured a frustrating window so far, with only three new faces in the door. Still, the champions have a squad that will be the envy of every other manager in the league and the sold-out crowd at Parkhead will expect to see their side start the campaign with a bang on Sunday.

While Celts have had the entire week to prepare, Killie suffered Europa League heartache away to Cercle Brugge on Sunday as a defensive mix-up cost them a place in the next round. Derek McInnes’ side at least have the safety net of the Conference League and while fans will be dreaming of a European adventure, the Ayrshire men will also have aspirations of achieving a top-four finish again this coming year.

Daizen Maeda is a major doubt for Celtic with a knee knock but Nicolas Kuhn has shrugged off a back injury.

Kilmarnock could have defenders Corrie Ndaba and Oliver Bainbridge in their squad following their signings although both may need time to get up to speed. Kyle Magennis is being phased into action following last season’s injury problems.

Last season: Kilmarnock 0 Celtic 5, Celtic 1 Kilmarnock 1, Kilmarnock 2 Celtic 1, Celtic 3 Kilmarnock 1.
