Columbus Crew have rejected more than one offer from a “Scottish club” for striker Jacen Russell-Rowe, with Celtic fans suspecting it could well be them.
Rowe was part of the Canada squad that reached the semi-finals of the Copa America after five goals and one assist for Crew in Major League Soccer. After the successful capture of international teammate Alistair Johnston and publicly stated desire to sign two new strikers this summer, Hoops fans suspect they may well be the club trying to sign Russell-Rowe, although they’ll have to up the ante to persuade Crew to sell.
Rodgers wants a more experienced striker to compete with for a starting spot, as well as a younger one as further back up. That role had been earmarked for Rocco Vata, although Rodgers has been forced into a rethink after the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international left for Watford. His replacement could be promoted from the Academy, although 21-year-old Rowe does seem to fit the profile Rodgers is looking for.
