AZ Alkmaar are weighing up a £2.5million bid for Sam Lammer as phillippe Clement’ seek further negotiations…

Sam Lammers Rangers exit may be closer than ever after new Utrecht transfer update.

Sam Lammers’ time at Rangers is set to come to an end this summer, but so far it is not clear where the Dutchman will end up.

The forward is understood to prefer a return to the Netherlands following his loan spell with FC Utrecht [The Fourth Official, 2 July], but reports have suggested the Eredivisie club will not be able to match the Light Blues’ valuation [Rangers Review, 30 May].

That has seen other clubs in the division entering the race and it has been reported that AZ Alkmaar are weighing up a £2.5million bid to try and tempt Philippe Clement into sanctioning his exit [Football Scotland, 2 July].

However, the plug may not have yet been pulled on Lammers’ potential return to Utrecht after a new update emerged from Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer surrounding their current transfer plans.

Writing on X on Friday (5 July) he said: “The transfer had of course been in the air for some time, but PSV and FC Utrecht have reached an agreement about [Ryan] Flamingo, for a transfer fee approaching €9million [£7.6million].”

Will Sam Lammers exit Rangers amid growing Ibrox transfer speculation?

If Utrecht are about to pocket a reported £7.6million for Flamingo’s services this summer, that could well see their transfer budget stretched a little bit further to afford Lammers’ wages and match Rangers’ valuation.

The Dutch club will likely first look to replace the 21-year-old centre-back before adding to their attacking options, but that fee alone would be more than enough to convince the Gers to part ways with the 27-year-old.
