Anders Limpar says he ‘would love’ to see Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres make the next big step in his career by completing a ‘crazy’ move to Arsenal.
Gyokeres’ extraordinary goalscoring exploits in Sporting have established the striker as one of the hottest properties in European football, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all credited with a strong interest in recent months.
And while Gyokeres’ current release clause stands at £83million, it’s understood Sporting could be willing to do business for as little as £63m for their prized possession at the end of the season.
Ruben Amorim’s switch from Sporting to Manchester United has only fuelled speculation that Gyokeres could follow suit and join his former manager at Old Trafford before too long.
However, former Arsenal and Sweden midfielder Limpar hopes to see his fellow countryman – a player he once mentored at Brommapojkarna – playing for the Gunners if he were to move on from the Portuguese top flight.
‘I know Gyokeres very well personally, I was a bit of a mentor for him when he played for Brommapojkarna, he and Ludwig Augustinsson. So, I’ve talked a lot about professional life with him,’ Limpar told FotbollDirekt.
‘He’s a fantastically hardworking forward who scores a lot of goals.
