Ange Postecoglou: Tottenham expert reveals when sack could really happen

Ange Postecoglou could be sacked by Tottenham if they fail to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League this season.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected at the club, explained that European qualification is the priority target for the boss this season.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that the club’s hierarchy are expecting to qualify for Champions League football at the end of the season.

Pressure on Postecoglou’s position as manager has been growing amid inconsistent performances and a lack of defensive solidity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich last time out, his side have now lost three of their last five games, and have kept just four clean sheets in 17 games this season.

Robinson, meanwhile, explained that the boss could lose his job as soon as February if they drop out of all the cup competitions and aren’t within reach of European qualification.

On top of that, Football Insider revealed on 16 November that the manager has fallen out with “at least four” star players including Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero.

Robinson, who spent four years at Tottenham between 2004 and 2008 and remains well-connected there, insisted that even winning a trophy may not be enough to save the manager’s job if they fail to reach Europe’s premier competition.

He’s under pressure now,” he told Football Insider.

“But I think he’s bang under pressure at the end of the season if they fail to make it into the Champions League or Europa League again.

“I think there’s got to be some signs of progression under his management.

“They’re being beaten too easily and they’re too susceptible defensively.
