Leeds United attacker remains coy over Elland Road future

Sam Greenwood is due to return to Leeds United next summer

It remains unclear what the future holds for Sam Greenwood. The versatile forward is due to return to Leeds United next summer following his season-long loan spell at Preston North End.

It is believed the Lilywhites have the option-to-buy Greenwood inserted as part of the deal. Greenwood has caught the eye at Deepdale, providing five goals in 13 outings across all competitions.

However, North End’s hopes of signing Greenwood on a permanent basis could be affected if United win promotion to the Premier League. It remains to be seen if the 22-year-old has a long term future under Daniel Farke. Greenwood is contracted to the Whites until the summer of 2026.

But the former Arsenal youngster, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, insists he is “not really thinking” about his future just yet. He said: “I have just got to see what happens and obviously keep my performances up. It is just opportunities.

“If I went back there (Leeds), it depends if I get those opportunities from the manager. As I say, I haven’t really thought about it yet. I have just got to see what happens and focus on the present.”

Greenwood played an hour of the Lilywhites’ Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal in midweek as Paul Heckingbottom’s side bowed out of the competition at the fourth round stage. “All the lads are brilliant and the manager is top, so yeah, I am loving it,” he told the Lancashire Post. “It is a good group and we are all really close. We have banter every day, play games and stuff, so yeah, I love it.”
