Everton have been handed a transfer ban by the Premier League after breaking rules regarding youth players.
The Telegraph and other major outlets in the UK have revealed that the Toffees have been handed a ban which means they are unable to sign academy players for the next two years.
The case in question reportedly involves allegations over their pursuit of a schoolboy who now plays for Manchester United.
Everton have also reportedly been fined £500,000 following the inquiry.
The ban will prevent Everton from signing players aged between 10 and 18 for their academy sides.
In a statement, Everton said they were “extremely disappointed with some of the practices we have found which are not in line with our values and not acceptable to Everton Football Club. Accordingly, we have accepted the penalties imposed on us by the Premier League and have given them our strongest apologies.”
The club added that they had “commenced a full review of our academy operations and are committed to ensuring that issues like this do not happen again at Everton.”
