When Brentford were initially being linked with a move for Assane Diaio, the slant in Spain was that the Premier League side were willing to pay €20-25m but Real Betis were holding out for something closer to his €30m clause.
That was in the January 2024 window, and Estadio Deportivo report Brentford and Nottingham Forest have shown interest since.
Interestingly, back at that time, Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes was quoted as saying: “We are very happy with his emergence. Remember that Betis, last year, played in the youth cup final. Assane was on that team and, within that youth philosophy, we are very happy that he is in the first team.He is in a growth process. It’s normal that there is interest, but we refer to his clause.”
Just days later, Planes left Real Betis for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad.
Since then, the winger’s star has faded. Indeed from February onwards of last season he became largely a bench player. So far this season the 19-year-old has 80 minutes in La Liga.
Estadio Deportivo now report he could move in January, with Nottingham Forest and Brentford interest getting a mention.
Feyenoord, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Getafe and FC Porto are all said to be keen.
As it stands, Nottingham Forest or Brentford could secure him for much less than Planes dismissed just days before he flew to his new Saudi life.He is in a growth process. It’s normal that there is interest, but we refer to his clause.”
