They say mums know best. So when Adam Idah’s mother Fiona says she’s never seen the striker happier than in a Celtic shirt who is he to argue? The Irishman’s last shot in the Hoops certainly sparked the mother of all parties in Glasgow’s east end and had him beaming from ear to ear back in May.
Pouncing on Jack Butland’s spill to slam home that 90th minute Scottish Cup Final winner against Rangers cemented – if it wasn’t already – the Irishman’s place in the Celtic family. And family is exactly how it feels to the 23-year-old who admits he was never afforded the same connection with the fans at Norwich despite coming through the ranks at Carrow Road.
There was certainly no wiping the smile off the 6ft 3in frontman’s face as he was unveiled to the media on Thursday afternoon after penning a five-year contract in an £8.5m deal that sees him become the second most expensive player in the club’s history. From being a bit part player in a promotion chasing club in the second tier in England he’s now looking forward to Champions League nights and going for more trophies after playing a key role in Celtic’s double as a loan player last season.
And he said: “Mum’s so proud of me, buzzing. She’s dying to get over for the games now, so she’s loving life. She came to quite a few games and obviously she came over for the cup final, so that was a big one for her. She says it herself – she’s never seen me as happy playing football as when I came here, so she’s delighted.
“How many times did I watch that goal back? I can’t even count now. I was constantly watching it. It’s the same feeling the whole time – getting goosebumps.
