Everton have been chasing a winger for some time now, yet keep failing to get it over the line.
Despite having had plenty of targets and a huge effort from the scouting team and Kevin Thelwell to bring someone in, recapturing Jack Harrison on loan remains their sole success in this area.
There is still time, fortunately, but it remains the one failure thus far that the Toffees have endured this summer, failed takeover aside.
Fortunately, there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel at last.
Everton reach agreement to sign Jesper Lindstrom
The latest on Everton’s interest in Jesper Lindstrom comes courtesy of Italian outlet CalcioMercato, who details the latest breakthrough that could prove pivotal in their efforts to finally snag the winger that Sean Dyche wants so badly.
Having been described as a ‘huge talent’ by former teammate Kevin Trapp, the Danish star joins with great recommendations despite having struggled for game time at Napoli last season.

However, he is seeking redemption at Goodison Park, and will hopefully use his struggles as a springboard for future success.

The report reads: ‘Jesper Lindstrom and Napoli will split their streets in the next few hours. Giovanni Manna has reached a total agreement with Everton for the sale of the Danish outsider on a loan with a redemption right set at 25 million (£21m).
‘To complete the negotiation, the agreement between the player and the English club is missing, contacts expected in the next few hours. For Napoli, it is a smart operation to try to get back from the lost bet considering the thirty million paid to Eintracht Frankfurt only twelve months ago and the difficulties encountered in his first season in Italy.’
Who else do Everton want to sign this summer?
Although this might seem like Everton tying up a deal for the elusive winger that Sean Dyche craves, it is arguably far from it.
After all, whilst Lindstrom can and has played out wide for Napoli and Frankfurt, he also enjoyed a starring role just off the striker, as a number ten of sorts.
So, with Everton’s interest in Wilfried Gnonto still there, more negotiations can be expected to capture the out-and-out wide man.
Meanwhile, additional centre-back cover is probably needed despite Jarrad Branthwaite seemingly set to stay at Goodison Park after relentless interest from Manchester United.
Jake O’Brien is on Everton’s list, and if Amadou Onana joins Aston Villa, a replacement central midfielder will also be needed too.

So, despite having already been busy in the market, there is still far more to come from Thelwell this summer.
