Whilst nothing is official just yet, thatās an eventuality that looks increasingly likely and we fully expect Jack Butland to be handed the armband in such an event.
Butland only āirreplaceableā player at Rangers
Interestingly, RangersĀ managerĀ Philippe Clement has only this week suggested that Jack Butland is the only āirreplaceableā player in the Ibrox clubās squad.
Speaking as the Rangers manager faced questions about the future of his team this summer, itās clear thatĀ big Phil rates the role of Butland in his team very highly.
āIf there is somebody coming with the right amount of money we will see, we will discus,ā said Clement
āBut you always need to see and then you need to replace somebody and you need enough money to replace them to make it better, otherwise it is also of no use. It is finding a balance in that way.
āI think there is only one player that is irreplaceable at the moment that I donāt think a team will pay the money that he is worth, for sure, and that is Jack Butland. Everybody knows what I think about that.ā
Rangers signed Jack Butland last summer when the goalkeeperās contract with Crystal Palace expired following a stint on loan at Manchester United.
The goalie went on to win the Rangers Player of the Year after a string of impressive performances last season.

āFormalā James Tavernier Rangers exit proposal met with harsh Ā£5.8m Turkish reality
The future of James Tavernier has been a central discussion amongst Rangers fans this transfer window.
The long-servingĀ IbroxĀ skipper ā who is now 32 ā is about to enter his 10th season at Rangers withĀ Tavernier initially eyeing a testimonialĀ before the summer.
But after another season of domestic disappointment, theĀ RangersĀ skipper finds himself at the centre of intensifying scrutiny amongst fans.
The Ibrox armband weighs heavy and after a series of high profile mistakes v Celtic, and another late season collapse, many believe the writing is on the wall.
But as renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano weighs in, weāre left wondering if the only āofficialāĀ James TavernierĀ suitors this summer are prepared to cough up.
Rangers receive āformal Tavernier proposalā
There has been no on-pitch figure more monumental for Rangers since the clubās financial demise in 2012 than James Tavernier.
The right-backās remarkable return of 125 goals and 129 assists in 460 games has made the Ibrox skipper British footballās greatest ever defensive goalscorer.
Also captaining the club since 2018 ā three years after initially joining Rangers from Wigan for Ā£250k whilst the club was in the Scottish Championship ā itās been one heck of a journey.
But after winning all three major domestic trophies, going unbeaten during 55, reaching the Europa League Final and leading the club back to the Champions League ā not to mention lifting the Petrofac Cap and scoring one of the most underrated Rangers goals in history in the final ā Tavās time in Glasgow could be about to come to an end.
And weāre not exactly sure what to make of it.
Whilst itās beenĀ Saudi Arabian clubs most closely linked to James TavernierĀ this summer, Turkish side Trabzonspor have reportedly made a āformal proposalā to Rangers.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the move on X with the Turks of course already adding Borna Barisic and John Lundstram to their ranks at the end of their contracts this summer.
Trabzonspor have tight purse strings
RangersĀ managerĀ Philippe Clement made headlines over the weekend when he claimedĀ the Gers would have to sell before they buyĀ this transfer window.
But there wouldāve been few Rangers fans banking on captain Tavernier being the first out the door.
Yet to feature for Rangers in pre-season, Clement claimed after the clash with Ajax that it wasĀ injury and not transfer speculation keeping Tavernier outĀ of the side.
But before anybody gets too carried away, thereās still the small detail of Rangers, James Tavernier and Trabzonspor all agreeing to a deal.
Given Tavernier walloped in 24 goals last season ā his highest scoring campaign to date ā we donāt suspect the Ibrox side will be looking to sell the skipper on the cheap.
But at 32-years-old, with little sell-on value, we donāt expect it to be an earth-shattering deal either.
For Rangers fans hoping for a potential payday to kickstart our window, itās interesting to note that Trabzonspor arenāt exactly ones to break the bank.
Whilst others in Turkish football have splashed the cash over the years, Trazbsonporās record transfer is the purchase of Majeed Waris from Spartak Moscow in 2014.
According to reports from the likes ofĀ NTV Sport, the ā¬6.9m (Ā£5.8m) the Turks spent on the Ghanaian attacker ten years ago has never been topped.
Whilst we donāt expect Tavernier to break it, we expect Rangers to get value for how much the marauding right-back is actually worth to the club.
If Motherwell can do it, then so can we.
