Colorado Buffaloes prepare for Shedeur Sanders departure by signing four-star transfer
Kaidon Salter entered the transfer portal and will play with the Buffaloes next year
As University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders prepares for the eventual departure of his son, Shedeur Sanders, to the 2025 NFL Draft, he’s ensuring the future of his program’s quarterback position is secure.
Shedeur, who has been among the top quarterbacks in the nation this season, leading in completion percentage (74.2%) and ranking in the top three for passing yards (3,926) and touchdowns (35), has set a high standard.
However, Sanders is confident the quarterback position at Colorado will remain strong with the recent addition of two key players: Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis.
Kaidon Salter declared his intention to move to Colorado
Deion Sanders’ first move to maintain quarterback continuity is the commitment of Kaidon Salter, a former four-star recruit with valuable college experience. Salter, who spent the 2024 season with Liberty, will join the Buffaloes for a one-year stint as a bridge quarterback.
Salter’s college career started off rocky at Tennessee, where he was dismissed following a series of off-field incidents. However, after transferring to Liberty, Salter revitalized his career.
Over four seasons with the Flames, he accumulated 5,887 passing yards, 56 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and 2,013 rushing yards with 21 rushing touchdowns. His standout season came in 2023 when he threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Salter’s arrival at Colorado gives the program an experienced quarterback to fill the gap between Shedeur’s departure and the arrival of highly regarded freshman Julian Lewis.
Looking beyond the 2024 season, Sanders has also secured the long-term future of the quarterback position with four-star recruit Julian Lewis. Ranked as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 115 overall recruit in the 2025 class, Lewis is already making a name for himself with impressive high school stats.
At Carrolton High School, Lewis has thrown for a staggering 10,677 yards, 142 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions over three seasons. This year alone, he passed for 3,465 yards and 46 touchdowns, showcasing his immense potential. Lewis is set to join Colorado in 2025, where he will step into the starting role following Salter’s one-year tenure.
