Texas football winter transfer portal tracker: Which players are leaving in 2025?
The regular season and signing period for high school recruiting in Texas football’s 2025 class wrapped up in the past week in December, which means the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window is set to open on Dec. 9.
The winter portal window for this transfer cycle lasts from Dec. 9-28. That gives head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns just a few weeks during this shortened winter portal window compared to the past few years to find key players to immediately upgrade positions of need on the two-deep on the roster in the 2025 season.
Texas is expected to see some level of roster attrition, especially at the deeper position groups scholarship-wise, during the winter transfer portal window. A couple of Texas players announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal before the winter window opened on Dec. 9.
Here’s a running list tracking the Longhorns’ transfer portal departures and their eventual destinations in the winter transfer window for the upcoming 2025 offseason.
Players that have left Texas football for the transfer portal for 2025
Johntay Cook II, WR
Destination: TBD
In early November, sophomore wide receiver Johntay Cook II was dismissed from the program by the Longhorns. After being dismissed from the program on Nov. 2, Cook announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal during the winter window.
Cook played 20 games for the Longhorns in the past two seasons, including six appearances for Texas’s offense this fall in 2024. He registered 16 catches for 273 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his two seasons at Texas.
This fall, Cook caught the first two touchdowns of his career, both coming in a three-reception game total in Week 3 against UTSA. Cook has two years of eligibility remaining.
On3 reported on Dec. 9 that Cook has officially entered the transfer portal.
